Long Yang Club Canberra

Archived Newsletters

August 2005

Editor's Note

Very sorry, members, for both the late newsletter, and the brevity of it.  But most of you would be aware that a long term member of the Club is quite sick, and that is occupying me.  But the basics are here.  See you at the function.

 Enjoy.  Ed

Presidential Greetings.......

I just don't know how it happened. Can someone explain it to me? I swear it was only a couple of years ago that I could party all night, get a couple of hours sleep, and be none the worse for wear the next day. I did this the other day, and woke up feeling like I've been thrown off a moving vehicle, with bags under my eyes that would never be allowed as cabin luggage.

A plethora of symptoms have been appearing for a while: sore joints after a night of dancing, getting the hangover the night before instead of the day after, love handles that refuse to disappear (not that they are being handled lovingly by anyone).

It also hits you when you try to convince your niece that American Pie is NOT a song by Madonna (shudder!), or that your first computer did not have hard disks or an internet connection. It first hit me several years ago when I realised I could have relations (old codger euphemism alert) with someone half my age and not break the law!

So at this stage, I will choose to take comfort in that old adage, "you're only as old as the man you feel." I'll be holding auditions in the coming weeks.

Cheers,
Anthony

Membership and New Members

Once again, a great turnout at Christmas in July and LOTS of new and renewing members:

Gerry Hervé C. Simon W. Stephanie L.
Abel Robert H. John P. Jeremy H.

Out total membership is now 47.  I'm sure we'll hit the target at our next function.  Look for discounts for the rest of the year!  And I'll be sending reminders to unfinancial members on our mailing list soon.  ;)

Christmas in July

What a wonderful night!  49 members and friends enjoyed a fabuluous dinner, prepared by Mark and Barrie, with a lot of friendly elves helping out.  Thanks too to Jeremy for the games, to Cesar and Stewart for decoration and entertainment, and to all those who helped on the night.

Daniel won the 'most festively' dressed, and a newcomer, Ree, won the lucky door prize, with, would you believe it, the last ticket handed out.  And let's not mention Santa - he enjoyed hugging and kissing all his good little boys :)

Wineries Tour

As we said last month, The wineries tour is a goer, and it's on 13 November.  At the moment, the trip is full (we can only get a bus of a certain size), but we expect that there will be vacancies later in the year.  Financial members will be asked to fill vacancies first.
