Whispering BambooLKS Newsletter of the Long Yang Club Canberra August 2006 Index
1. Secretary
Greetings
The
secretary says:
The Christmas in July function attracted 27 people including one of our regular visitors, Michael C of Sydney LYC, and many new faces including Graham, now living in Canberra, and Aden from Sydney. We also signed up another new member, Michael H. Welcome. The night was a huge success with Vietnamese food to die for and heaps of it. After dinner all took turns to deliver a gift to someone else. To say some of the gifts were unusual would be an understatement. Those who did not attend missed out on a great time.
Our August function, on the 27th, is planned to be the first of what will, hopefully, become regular yum-chas at a restaurant in Woden. Details have been sent to members and are available by emailing: canberra@longyangclub.org Please indicate to Treasurer Barrie whether you are interested in yum-cha as a regular event (in addition to our other activities, of course), and RSVP him at barriec@homemail.com.au before mid-day, Friday 25th.
We are looking for ideas for our September Floriade function, to which Sydney LYC members will be invited. The sooner we have a program the sooner we can invite our Sydney "brothers". The October function will be another great Gay Games; and the November function will coincide with Canberra's annual Bush Dance, to which our Sydney brethren will again be invited.
Congratulations are due to several of our members: Eric, for his recent graduation with a Masters degree from the ANU. All at LYCC wish you well in your new career in Geelong. We will miss you at our functions but hope you can visit us from time to time. Congratulations also to former President Mark on becoming a partner in a boutique hotel in Bali. Although LYCC does not endorse any products or services, members intending going to Bali might pick up some useful tips next time they see Mark at one of our functions. Congratulations are also in order for Yin, our webmaster, who has secured a position at the ANU. Well done, Guys.
Until our next function
Cheers
David C
