From the Acting
Secretary
Yes, that’s
right, guys, I am Acting Secretary while Stuart takes a break.
Having been President and Secretary previously, the position is not new
to me. However, like all positions in Long Yang and in any other
community group, it’s only through the cooperation of members with the
committee that we can grow the club. Some ways you can cooperate
could be to contribute articles about your experiences with Long Yang
(both here and in other states or overseas) to our newsletter - just
email them to me - or to help organise future events. Remember, we
need not be limited to one function a month.
The June function, a housewarming barbeque at Cesar’s, was a great
success with about 28 members attending. We signed up one new
member, Long, and welcomed back John P who had taken a break from Long
Yang activities. Our financial membership now is 42. Not bad for a
city of 300,000. In spite of being the middle of winter we were able to
hold the function outdoors in bright, even warm-ish sunshine, until a
cool snap at about two o’clock sent us scurrying indoors. Thank
you to Cesar, Stuart and Yin for their hosting of that event. More
thanks to Yin for taking over our website, too.
The Christmas-in-July function will be have an Asian flavour this year
and is being held at a restaurant in the Weston Creek area on Saturday,
22nd July at 8pm. Cost is $20 per head and wine and beer will be
supplied by the club. Soft drinks are available for purchase from the
restaurant. You are also asked to bring a gift-wrapped present up to the
value of $10 for our “Secret Santa” to distribute. RSVP for this
function is essential by emailing me at
canberra@longyangclub.org
before Wednesday 19th July. In return, I will let you know the location
of the restaurant.
We are still finalising an August function and will make a preliminary
announcement at the Christmas-in-July dinner. However, if you have
something you would like to suggest or host, please let me know at
canberra@longyangclub.org
.
September will be the Floriade function, to which our Sydney brothers
will be invited. Again, we are looking for an event to entertain
our guests after a day among the pansies (and tulips). Simon and
Jeremy have kindly offered to hold another fun-filled Gay Games at their
farm in October. November is, of course, Bush Dance month to which
our Sydney friends will again be invited. Mark your diaries for
Saturday, November 25th.
So, until Christmas-in-July on the 22nd
Cheers

President's Greeting
Greetings All
Winter is a bit too cold for my liking. I'm sure a number of you out
there share the same dislike this time of the year. Of course, we can
stay at home, in the office or out at shopping malls. I took a week off,
planned to do some gardening, up root those nasty weeds, put new plants
on the ground but I just didn't get to do that except for keeping the
driveway clean from debris of the gum trees.
In sports, The French Open 2006 is over, Nadal triumphant and we saw
Federer won the Men's Singles Final at Wimbledon. I picked Nadal to win
although it's a big ask to beat Federer in his favourite surface. Nadal
made a big improvement in this surface though. Tony Roche said Nadal
will provide an even stiffer challenge in the next 12 months. The World
Cup
2006 concluded on Monday, 10 July 06, Italy victorious over France.
There are some spunks in both team. Did anyone watch the whole
tournament? I beat you took notes who's worth checking out in the
internet. The time zone difference makes watching really hard but if you
got the passion, no barrier can stop you from enjoying it.
If it gets colder and colder, we might just get some snow and what if it
happens on 22 July 2006, the night of our X-mas dinner in July. I won't
be complaining then. To this note, I hope everyone can attend this
occasion.
Stay fit, healthy and looking fabulous.
