Editor's Note
I must apologise for the lateness of this Newsletter. My plans were to have it out in the first week of May, but the best laid plans of mice and gay men...... I'll promise to do better next month! ;) Ed.
Presidential Greetings.......
Greetings to all, with warm wishes to counter the onset of cooler weather descending upon us. This being my first ever message, I will keep it brief (an advantage, I hope, to all of us).
This year has been proving to be a great success, with very well attended events including the AGM and the Terry Stocker Memorial tennis tournament, and culminating with the Pot Luck and White Elephant function in Woden. Take heart, however, as the gaiety continues for the rest of the year – check our calendar for details.
I was extremely
heartened by the number of new members joining LYC, along with past
members revisiting after a period of absence. It is my hope that all our
members continue to extend the warm camaraderie and acceptance I have
always felt in our gatherings. This is, after all, what I believe is the
essence of Long Yang.
I look forward to seeing everyone (well, most of you anyway) at Mark and
Miguel's place for cocktails. I'm sure it will be an exceedingly
rip-roaring triumph like it was last year. Little black cocktail dresses
are optional.
Cheers,
Anthony

April Function - Pot Luck + White Elephant
+ Video Swap 30 April
The April function was an outstanding success, with some 40 members,
guests and potential members having an outstanding meal, buying all
sorts of treasures, and just having fun. We happily had some new members
who joined on the night, some old ones we haven't seen for a while, our
country members who turned up from Sydney, and others who had just
driven from the big smoke as well!!
Thanks to all who made it a roaring success. To Barrie for organising
the hall, to all who brought their White Elephants (and Pink Movies?),
and very importantly to those who spent money!!! Congratulations to
James and David on winning the lucky door prizes. We took a total of
$169, and after paying for the venue, ended up with a profit of $99!
All in all a wonderful event.

Update on costs for the Tennis Tournament
Treasurer Barrie has updated the balance sheet for the Tennis
Tournament. After taking into consideration last minute payments for
trophy donations, the day cost the Club just $30.
May Function - Cocktails and MORE Cocktails
The May function is on 28 May at Miguel's and Mark's place in Watson.
The party starts at 7 pm, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and cocktail food will be provided, and there'll be plenty of beer. But if you want to bring a drink of your own preference, you're welcome!
RSVP is a must! Members (and those that are on our mailing list - wouldn't it be great if they were all members!!!) can RSVP by email by clicking here, and I'll send them the address if they don't already have it. I'll send out a note to our mailing list the week before the event with last minute RSVP arrangements.
For those who have not been to a LYC function before, please see our Membership page and "How to Join".
See you all
there!

June Function - Olympic Champagne Brunch
Jeremy and Simon
have kindly offered to host an Olympic Champagne Brunch on Sunday, 26
June, at their farm. More details next month.
House Boat Trip
Bay River Houseboats have 2 houseboats available on the weekend of 14/17
October.
As I said last month, the boat leaves early afternoon Friday (14th),
goes upstream till Sunday morning, then starts back towards the sea,
arriving around 10am on Monday (17th). Costs are in the order of $180
per person, and this includes all food (and your fishing licence!!).
BYO drinks, of course.
We now need numbers if we are going to book. I currently have
5
names. I need
8
for one boat and
16
for two. Two
boats is a bunch of laughs, with the boats tied together at night for
one big dinner and party.
SO, I
need names NOW.
We will be asking for a deposit of $20 in early August, with another $90
by early September. This will cover the cost of the boat. Then we'll
organise food and the additional boat costs (fuel, etc) in October.
Check out the website at
www.bayriverhouseboats.com.au.
If you would like to go, please email the Secretary at
canberra@longyangclub.org. If
you've already emailed, I have your name, thank you.
NO NAMES NO TRIP.
Wineries Tour
We have 9 for this trip, so that's plenty for a small bus. So that one's
a goer! Let's set the date at 13th November, as I believe the Bush Dance
is on the 26th. I'll advise costs closer to the day. Please
email if you would like to add your
name to the list.

LYC International
Our Committee, after being given a mandate by the Annual General Meeting to investigate and take the appropriate action, has decided that LYC Canberra will pay its affilliation fee and become a fully fledged member of LYC International.
There will not be a great deal of difference for members, but you will now be eligible to nominate for such important positions as the Regional Co-ordinator, and, dare we say it, President of LYC International!! And we will be paying our way in regards to the website, which is provided by International.
There's quite a bit of information from International and other areas, so I've decided to do a special page just for them. Check it out--->Click Here

Bamboo Adelaide
As we know, LYC Adelaide is no more. But many of the members of that
Chapter are now members of Bamboo Adelaide, which is described as a
'true multicultural social club'. Check out their website--->
www.bamboo-adelaide.com. They've told me our members will always be
welcome at their functions. And I've told them they will always be
welcome at ours!
And finally, a little joke to make you smile:
Nick the Dragon Slayer had a long-standing obsession to nuzzle the beautiful Queen's voluptuous breasts, but he knew the penalty for this would be death. One day he revealed his secret desire to his colleague, Horatio, the Physician, who was the King's chief doctor. Horatio the Physician exclaimed that he could arrange for Nick the Dragon Slayer to satisfy his desire, but it would cost him 1,000 gold coins to arrange it. Without pause, Nick the Dragon Slayer readily agreed to the scheme.
The next day,
Horatio the Physician made a batch of itching powder and poured a little
bit into the Queen's brassiere while she bathed. Soon after she dressed,
the itching commenced and grew intense. Upon being summoned to the Royal
Chambers to address this incident, Horatio the Physician informed the
King and Queen that only a special saliva, if applied for four hours,
would cure this type of itch, and that tests had shown that only the
saliva of Nick the Dragon Slayer would work as the antidote to cure the
itch.
The King quickly summoned Nick the Dragon Slayer. Horatio the Physician
then slipped Nick the Dragon Slayer the antidote for the itching powder,
which he quickly put into his mouth, and for the next four hours, Nick
worked passionately on the Queen's voluptuous and magnificent breasts.
The Queen's itching was eventually relieved, and Nick the Dragon Slayer
left satisfied and touted as a hero.
Upon returning to his chamber, Nick the Dragon Slayer found Horatio the
Physician demanding his payment of 1,000 gold coins. With his obsession
now satisfied, Nick the Dragon Slayer couldn't have cared less and,
knowing that Horatio the Physician could never report this matter to the
King, shooed him away with no payment made.
The next day, Horatio the Physician slipped a massive dose of the same itching powder into the King's shorts. The King immediately summoned Nick the Dragon Slayer...
