Editor's Note

A hectic two months, with too much to do.  Sorry about a combined issue, but sometimes, one has to do things...

Ed.

Presidential Greetings.......

As evidenced by my previous rantings, most of you know that I occasionally get on my soapbox regarding some issue or another. This time, due to the stresses of exams (yeah, doing post-grad studies seemed like a VERY good idea at the time…) I am putting aside the soapbox and just express my delight at the attendances at the social events we’ve had. Considering we have been having more functions in the last couple of months, with more to come, this is certainly good news.

I would also like to take this opportunity to request members to give some thought about which further direction you want the LYC to take in the future. If you have suggestions, please talk to any committee member – we will gather them all up and discuss with everyone. For example, do you believe we should remain strictly as a social group, or should we take up other challenges?

In the meantime, I keep looking forward to catching up with everyone during the upcoming functions.

Cheers,
Anthony

Membership and New Members

Still a few joining, and a few oldies (that relates to their being members some time ago, definitely not their age) joining again.  Welcome!

Tuck Meng S. Robert G.
Paul H. Eric H.

Out total membership is now 55, a wonderful result for the year, and 10% over our target.

And a departure:  Sadly, Stephane Lo (Shu to most of you) had to return to France in October.  He said thanks to all members for making himself and Hervé welcome.  Luckily, Hervé will be back for a while after a short holiday in France.  Farewell Shu, don't forget us!  ;)

Car Treasure Hunt and Rally

After much hair pulling, this function was postponed again.  Keep an eye out for it.

Bridges Art Exhibition

While not a Club function in the real sense of the word, this exhibition saw a long term member displaying his art together with other Canberra artists.  Congratulations Ch'un-Chiang.

Floriade

What a wonderful weekend!  Despite a reduced number of Sydney members, we still had four (yes, count them FOUR) wonderful functions all on the same weekend:
Floriade:  About 20 intrepid adventurers braved the cold winds and occasional rain to view this wonderful spectacle.
Barbecue:  Thanks to Glenn who provided a wonderful setting for a barbecue, with around 30 enjoying the feast and the wonderful camaraderie.  Thanks also (again..) to Mark and Barrie for organising the food, and to those who helped on the night. And I wonder who was the last to leave Cube? ;)
Thai Cultural and Food Festival:  Goodness knows how many attended this, as there were thousands there (it seemed), and it was difficult to count our members.  But this was certainly a hit, even though there was a wait for some of the wonderful food.
Tennis:  Well, last, but certainly not least, 8 players and some spectators enjoyed a couple of hours to wear away the kilos put on in the past two days.

Thanks very much Sydney, for your visit.  See you at the Bush Dance.

Barbecue with Stuart

Stuart's home was ideal for a relaxed barbecue, with some 20 members and guests enjoying his and Cesar's hospitality. A lovely relaxing LYC function! Tony E. turned up (he's quite the social butterfly!) and brought a new member, Eric H - Welcome to the Club.  And thanks again Stuart and Cesar.

November Function - Bush Dance and Visit by LYC Sydney, 26 November

Sydney LYCC will again visit for the Tennis Club Bush Dance.  There will be a "pre-Dance" barbecue, hosted by Stephen and Daniel, and I have no doubt, there will be a "post-Dance" Cube visit!  We need numbers for the barbecue only, so if you are coming to that, please RSVP---> Click here!  It's BYO Drinks only.  All food provided.  $5 for non-financial Canberrans.

NOTE, that we may need accommodation for Sydney Members.  I'll let you know closer to the day, so if you have a spare bed, keep this in mind please.

New members or those not on our mailing list, please click Here for details on how to join!

LYC Sydney Christmas Party
