Long Yang
Club (LYC) is a network
of gay Asian/non-Asian
groups. It aims to
provide a friendly and
supportive environment
for gay
Asians/non-Asians,
chiefly through a program
of social events and
other activities.
The first Long Yang Club
was founded in London in
1983. It was expanded
into an international
network by Billy Wong. It
now has over 37 chapters
in the UK and Europe,
Australia, New Zealand,
Asia, USA and Canada. All
chapters are members of
the umbrella body Long
Yang Club International (LYCI). Membership in one
chapter entitles one to
membership in any other
chapter. However, each
chapter is managed
independently by its own
committee.
As a chapter of LYCI,
Long Yang-Sydney has a
say in how LYCU is
managed and can nominate
members to run for
election to the LYCI
Board.
The LYCI can provide
advice to local chapters
if required. In addition
LYCI organises an annual
international conference
called ICON. Conferences
have been held in Bangkok
and Toronto with the next
conference to be held in 2008 in Berlin.
Long Yang Club is named
after the gay character
"Lord Long
Yang" in the Chinese
book of legends Dream of
Red Mansions. In addition
to our chapter here in
Sydney there are other
chapters in Canberra and Melbourne.
